Is Tennessee wood really used or is that just hype?

It's not hype. We have over 80 acres of woodland in Tennessee and most of it is on the side of a mountain (we call it Wolf Mountain) in McMinnville, TN. This is where most of our wood comes from for our round birdhouses. We sometimes get other wood, like Birch, that does not grow in Tennessee in order to cater to our customer's wishes. When we say we use Tennessee wood in our construction that's simply fact.

How long will a Wolf Mountain Birdhouse last?

That's an excellent question but one we cannot honestly answer. In short, they should last for years. However it really depends on your climate, the type of wood used, where the house is located and many other factors. For example, Birch is a relatively soft wood as is pine. Houses made from these materials probaby won't last as long as one made from Oak or Cedar. Since we use no preservatives, no paints or anything else that might harm developing chicks the houses will deteriorate with time just as a hollow tree would in the wild. Since we use Tulip Poplar in most of our construction you should expect your Wolf Mountain birdhouse to last for years.

Do you really manufacture these birdhouses?

Yes, we really do! The founders of this company were camping a while back and had cut standing deadwood for their campfire. They also used blocks of the deadwood for tables before it was needed for the campfire. They got the idea that this wood could be used for unique and one of a kind birdhouses and Wolf Mountain Birdhouses was born. Every birdhouse is constructed by hand in Tennessee.

I noticed the removable area of each home in the photos is on the bottom of the round birdhouses. Why?

Sharp eyes! Yes, the pictures on our site show the removable section on the bottom. This way, if the screws are loosened the top portion can be lifted out and the old nesting material can be brushed off to make the house ready for the next year. You do not have to reach in and remove old nesting material, and potentially insects sharing the nesting area, by hand.

Can the house be built with the removable area at the top of the house of a round birdhouse?

Yes. Every Wolf Mountain Birdhouse is hand made and built when you order it. If you wish the removable section to be placed at the top of your handmade home just let us know and we'll construct it that way.
