Like we stated on our home page all wood, with the exception of special orders, is grown right in Tennessee.
Wolf Mountain gets its material from several locations in Tennessee but most of our wood comes from McMinnville, Tennessee on an 80 acre mountain side owned by Wolf Mountain Products.
We also work with local environmentally friendly timber harvesters to obtain some of our wood.
When they cut an area they use the main portion of the tree. The "tops", what we would call branches,
are of no use to them and are usually left to naturally decompose back into the land. We work with
these companies and use some of these tops because they are perfect for our purposes and there's
less material going to waste.
While people might think that these companies are reducing the number of nesting sites for birds, and they are, we hope that by reusing some of what they consider waste we are restoring nesting areas
for the birds we all love.
We also work only with companies that do not clear cut. All of the companies we work with will leave standing trees 14" or less in diameter. This opens up the woodland giving these trees more sunlight and more area in which to mature. In just a couple of years
the land harvested by these conscientious woodsmen will take on almost a park like appearance. The roads put in in order to remove the trees grow over and the open areas become grazing areas for deer and other wildlife. In about 10-15 years the area will once again be able to be harvested and this can continue indefinitely.
Trees and other plant life grow very quickly in McMinnville Tennessee. It's home to numerous nursery companies because of the climate and how well and quickly things grow there. Trees are no exception and it's one of the reasons Wolf Mountain Products gets its materials from there.
