Overview

The Hawk Eye is a color video cam, with infrared night vision, built in microphone, and a weather shield so it can be used inside and out. Comes fully wired with 100' RCA (audio-, video-in) cable. Extensions are available. Although the image is color, be aware that colors inside a birdhouse will, at best, be muted. Infrared lights automatically take over when natural light levels are too low. Because it is also wired for infrared night vision, the infrared coming off vegetation can overwhelm the the camera's sensors, giving false colors. Works best in shaded areas. Grass, flowers, and other vegetation likely to appear off color.

These cameras do not have to be placed in a birdhouse, though that is how we use them. They can be placed anywhere you can run the cable. They can be placed in an entryway, driveway, front or back door, anywhere within 100 feet of your TV or computer connection. Since they work in the dark imagine how valuable they would be to you if you heard a noise in your back yard and were able to see whatever was within the camer's range even in total darkness!

We have tested this camera connected to our computer and it works beautifully. If you do not have a video card with RCA connectors, and most computers do not come equipped with them, you should obtain a Hauppauge USB-2 connector. This allows you to connect your Hawk Eye cam to your computers USB 2 port and watch and even record action as it happens!

Want to see an actual demonstration of this camera in action? Check out this YouTube video. Impressive! You can make videos just like this when you connect your Hawk Eye camera to your computer and use the Happauge USB 2 connector described above.

As with any electronic device care should be taken to protect the camera from direct sunlight and direct exposure to rain. Since there is a built in microphone, though the opening is small, if wind driven rain enters the opening it could adversely impact the camer's performance. While there is a shield on the camera additional steps to protect the camera are recommended.
